This is just a general question about the culture of firefighters. Recently, in Vancouver British Columbia Canada, 7 female firefighters walked off from their jobs, all are pursuing lawsuits against the employer for sexual harrassment. One female firefighter committed suicide because of the constant harrassments. They include things like putting feces in their boots, putting nasty pictures in their lockers, and shutting off the water as a joke while the female firefighters were putting out fires. The general comment there is that female firefighters should not be in the force if they can't handle the teasing, what does everyone else think?

Rob,
There is a big difference between teasing, practical jokes, etc., and sexual harassment.
There is a tradition of firefighters teasing and playing practical jokes on each other. This is done in fun to build camaraderie and relieve tension.
The fire service, as a whole, does not condone sexual harassment. However, there are individuals within the fire service that participate in this type of activity. In my opinion, these firefighters should be disciplined to the fullest extent possible.
The Vancouver, B.C., situation is definitely sexual harassment.
Just my two cents.
Thanks for stopping by.
